Fisherman's Bastion on Castle Hill in Buda.
Day 9: Castle Hill, Matthias Church & the Great Market Hall
Castle Hill Walking TourWe started our morning walking tour with Monika on the northern side of Castle Hill. We spent some time at Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion learning about Matthias Corvinus and the subsequent history of the Church before taking a welcome break. Continuing southwards on Castle Hill we made our way past the buildings of the Royal Palace and museums, learning the Tural bird folktale, before heading down and across the Chain Bridge to our last stop at the Great Market Hall.

Image of the DayThe beautifully decorated nave of Matthias Church on Castle Hill in Buda. We went back to the church in the afternoon so we could take our time exploring it and we were so glad we did. The decoration deserves the closer inspection we gave it, and it was so peaceful inside.

Matthias ChurchSo we spent about 15 minutes with the tour in Mathias Church, but that was too short for so much to see that it really deserved more time. With it being 100 degrees out we decided to scratch our original plan of going out to Memento Park and instead, after the Great Market Hall, went back to Mathias Church to have a better look around in its' cool interior. It was definitely the right decision as we really enjoyed all of the amazing decoration, side chapels, and going up to the balcony area with its' little museum.
