We are on the rooftop of the building with the Camera Obscura and a fabulous view over Eger.
Day 7: Eger, Hungarian Wine, and Budapest
Our Morning in EgerPeter explained this morning we could choose between staying at the hotel and relaxing or going into Eger with our luggage already under the bus to see the sights. We of course went into Eger where the bus kindly dropped us off. We headed first to the market where we bought some cherries to contribute to a picnic lunch. We then headed to see the Camera Obscura and the view over Eger from the Lyceum's rooftop. Finally, the baptism that was happening in Eger Cathedral was over so we were able to get a small peak at it, albeit under renovations. We then hung out on the square in front of the Cathedral and enjoyed a picnic lunch.

Image of the DayOur wine tasting stop between our time in Eger and arriving in Budapest was so much fun! Brett, Deb and I are wine people, and here you see Deb and Brett with our first pour. We drank wine, listened to our talented violinist, sang to the music, laughed with our fellow tour members, danced, and were able to tour the cellars. This was simply an outstanding stop between overnight destinations that I can't imagine missing! Egeszsegedre!

Let's Drink Some Wine! After our morning in Eger we boarded the bus and headed just a little way outside of Eger to the Kohari Winery! Hungary is known for their 'Bull's Blood' red wine, but they also shared some white's with us. We had a whole tasting with very generous pours, so make sure you eat something in Eger and then munch on the finger food they give you. Our host gave us a wonderful presentation for each wine with an engaging smile and encouraging manner. She helped root 'Egeszsegedre' in our vocabulary and even now back home instead of saying Cheers we say Egeszsegedre! We had such a fun, amazing time while also listening to a wonderful violinist! Then we were welcome to tour the cellars and chat with the vintner.

Hotel Andrassy Budapest ~ Budapest, Hungary
Hotel Andrassy was right on Andrassy Ut, one of the main arteries of the city. There was also a handy stop on the metro very close by. This is important because Budapest is quite a large city and you do really need to use the public transportation system to effectively get around. The rooms were wonderful, quite large with AC (which was very necessary as Budapest was the hottest place on our trip at about 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit), and a beautiful lobby for us all to gather before leaving the hotel. The breakfast room was a good size with an incredible spread. Like most mornings at breakfast we headed down right away and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before heading back up to our rooms to gather out things and meet our group in the lobby to start our day.
Our beautiful & spacious room - we got the one right across from the elevators and stairs and were worried about noise but never heard a thing, so if you get that room location, don't worry about it. The wonderful breakfast spread with coffee machine, and my typical breakfast.
